Volunteer opportunities with WAES
You’ll make a real difference in the lives of homeless parrots. WAES is run entirely through volunteer work, so there are many opportunities to get involved and meet others who love parrots!
Some of the ways you can volunteer include:
Events
WAES hosts several events throughout the year. We have a monthly meeting open to the public, an annual picnic, educational workshops, and occasional fundraising events. Volunteers can help in many ways at events such as: transporting birds/supplies, setting up before the event, cleaning up after the event, talking to potential adopters/volunteers, and answering questions. WAES is also present at many community events, where volunteers can help answer questions about our rescue and get people excited about parrot rescue and WAES.
Fostering
WAES is entirely foster-based, and we always have animals in need of fosters! Please visit our Foster page to learn more about our foster program.
Transport
We are often in need of volunteer support for a variety of transportation tasks such as: picking up birds who have been surrendered to WAES, delivering birds to foster or adoptive homes, taking birds to vet appointments, bringing birds to events, and picking up/delivering cages and other supplies.
Rescue
As families volunteer to foster or adopt, WAES is dedicated to ensuring each bird is placed in a safe environment. Part of this is performing home studies. Volunteers can assist by visiting these homes, filling out the WAES home study form, and reporting back to the Rescue Committee.
Outreach
WAES is always appreciative of volunteers who can help connect us with the larger community. Whether this is through media, partnerships, fundraisers, or sponsorships, we would love to hear your ideas and have your support.
Newsletter
WAES currently distributes a monthly newsletter to our members. Volunteers can help with providing content and editing.
Administrative Assistance
Administrative help may not seem glamorous, but it is a necessary part of keeping WAES running effectively. We can use volunteers to help maintain the website, answer emails and voicemail, take minutes, etc.
Join our Board of Directors
WAES has several volunteer board positions that go up for vote every December. The Board of Directors is responsible for the governing of WAES, focusing on mission, legacy, strategy, and goals of the organization. To learn more, please visit our Leadership page.
